All the things mentioned above! Great! You can either schedule to do a live virtual audition with FAWK over Zoom or you can submit your set to us via email.

You can audition in two ways:

Please include your name and a link to your video submission.

Your set needs to be a video submission so we can clearly see and hear you. It does not need to be professionally shot.

Provide a LINK to your video submission. Your video needs to be already uploaded to youtube, vimeo, etc. Your video link can be private, but don’t forget to include a password. We will NOT be watching any submissions that require us to download the videos.

Please submit your audition by 5 pm CT on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

FAQs

Is this paid?
Yup! All comedic performers will be PAID for their performance.
What’s the time commitment?
Performers will be required to attend 3-4 rehearsals, dress rehearsal, and the performance on April 16, 2022. Depending on the type of material that will be performed, performers may only be required to attend 1-2 rehearsals. Performers will be asked to keep the entire day April 16, 2022 open as this will be the only day we will be able to do a tech rehearsal at the Ordway.
Will you change my set?
No. The set/story/sketch/video/song/dance/etc. that you audition with is the set that will be performed at the Ordway. That means we will be determining guest performers based off of auditions. If we feel your set has potential but requires editing and coaching, we will most likely not be inviting you to perform with us. Due to the pandemic, we are not able to have an expansive rehearsal process.
How should I prep for my audition?
Practice! Practice in front of your mirror, your friends and family members, practice while you’re driving in the car, practice at Target. Basically, practice your set enough times so that you know your comedic beats, tone, and flow. Practice! Your set needs to be complete and you should be comfortable. We are deciding to book you off your audition.
Can I swear? Can I talk about sex? Can I talk about things that are considered risqué, taboo, tough, or heavy?
Yes. FAWK’s mission is that APIDA female-identifying and non-binary folks are not censored. We also believe that comedy is a great tool to talk about the hard stuff.
Can my friends and I audition together? Like a duo? A group?
Yes, but that will be considered as ONE guest performer slot. For example, if you and your friends have a comedic sketch that you all want to perform together, we will consider that for ONE 3-5 minute slot for the show. If you also want to showcase your individual work, like a stand-up set, you will need to sign up for a separate audition slot. Duo/Group auditions do require that all members be female-identifying or non-binary Asian Pacific Islander Desi Americans. Again, all members must be female-identifying or non-binary AND Asian Pacific Islander Desi American.
Who is running the show?
FAWK co-leaders May Lee-Yang, Saymoukda Vongsay, and Naomi Ko will be making artistic decisions.
I want to incorporate visuals and/or music in my set. Is that okay?
Yup! We advise you to have that ready and already incorporated in your audition so we get the full picture.
What happens if the pandemic or something cancels the performance?
We really hope that doesn’t happen, knock on wood! FAWK and the Ordway Center for Performing Arts follow City of Saint Paul, the Minnesota Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and safety protocols.

For FAWK, we require that all performers are up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations and proof-of-vaccination is required for rehearsals and our performance. In addition, all performers as well as FAWK Staff are required to get tested for COVID 72 hours prior to our April 16, 2022 show and test results must be negative in order to perform. I can’t make the Zoom audition. Can I send you my submission?
Yes, submit your audition by 5 pm Central Time, Tuesday, 2/22/2022. We require a video audition with a link, aka already uploaded. It does not have to be professionally shot, but we want to get a clear shot of you as well as be able to hear you clearly. Please already upload your video to youtube, vimeo, dropbox, etc. We will not be opening or watching any videos that require us to download the file. You can make your link private, send us the password so we can watch it too.
I am a female-identifying or non-binary Asian Pacific Islander Desi American comedic performer, but I’m not from Minnesota. Can I still audition?
We’re sorry, but no. Right now we can only accommodate our guest performing slots to those who are Minnesota-based.
When will you let us know if we’re a part of the show?
We will notify everyone by March 11, 2022 of their status.

FAWK’s co-leadership team aka May, Mooks, and Naomi.
