Have you ever wondered how you could take personal experiences and turn it into a one-person or, at the very least, a monologue? Join us for a workshop on finding the comedy in your life.
Kat Evasco (she/her/hers) is a queer Pinay immigrant writer, comedian, and theater artist best known for her autobiographical one-woman show, Mommy Queerest, co-written with John Caldon. Kat has helped develop four full length solo shows including Prieto by Yosimar Reyes, Locus in Control by Jason Bayani, Irene Tu’s Rest In Peace Irene, and #Resist by Cesar Cadabes. She was recently awarded the Kenneth Rainin NEW Program Grant towards the world premiere for her new play Be Like Water produced by Brava Theater. Kat’s work has been featured on Vice, Shondaland, Bustle, The Advocate, Out Magazine, and NBC News Asian America. Kat is a 2018 Lambda Literary Fellow in playwriting and was published in the 2018 Emerge Anthology. She received her BA in Asian American Studies from San Francisco State University and she currently serves as the Sr. Program Director at the Center for Cultural Power.

Her comedy has been covered in Variety, Vulture, New York Times, LA Times, & more. She's written for Adult Swim's The Eric Andre Show & Soft Focus with Jena Friedman and is in Season 3 of HBO's Room 104.
Origin Story: A Conversation with Kulap Vilaysack

In Origin Story, Kulap Vilaysack explores her tangled family tree to find out who she is. The documentary is a feature-length, international quest with stops in Los Angeles, Minnesota, and Laos to meet the biological father she never knew. Registered participants will receive a link to view Origin Story between January 22-27, 2021. Then join Kulap for a conversation around the making of her film facilitated by Lao American writer Saymoukda Duangpuxay Vongsay. This workshop is co-sponsored by Saint Paul Neighborhood Network (SPNN) and will be co-moderated by Joua Lee Grande.
Kulap Vilaysack was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Eagan, Minnesota. Sheis the child of Lao refugees. Her debut documentary,Origin Story, chronicles a road trip into her complicated past to meet her biological father and understand her mother. Vilaysack was also the creator, showrunner and sometimes director of the 4-season semi-scripted comedy seriesBajillion Dollar Propertie$(Seeso). She served as showrunner and co-executive producer ofA Legendary Christmas With John & Chrissy(NBC). Kulap also directed the Emily Heller Comedy Special,Ice Thickeners(Comedy Central Digital). Her TV acting credits include:The Office, Parks and Recreation, Happy Endings, Bob's Burgers, The Sarah Silverman Program and Reno 911! I've had recurring roles in Childrens Hospital and Comedy Bang! Bang! Her film acting credits include: I Love You Man and Welcome to Me starring Kristen Wiig.
