ABOUT MARIE:
Marie Hanhnhon Nguyen is a Vietnamese writer. She was born in Saigon and moved to California with her family when she was 5.
Marie began her creative career working alongside director Yann Demange on WHITE BOY RICK (Sony), on which she served as an Associate Producer, and the LOVECRAFT COUNTRY (HBO) pilot.
She is a Black List and WIF screenwriters lab fellow. She is a 2021 Sundance IDP Fellow and grantee. Her screen work includes the upcoming Netflix show BEEF and the Peacock show A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY. She was most recently staffed on THE DECAMERON for Netflix. She has film and television projects in development with A24 and Amazon. She was recently accepted into the 2023 WGA Showrunner Training Program.
Her play, Ten and a Half, was selected for the Sundance Institute and CTG Playwriting Intensive in 2019 and was a winner of the 2020 Hollywood Fringe Scholarship. Ten and a Half was also a finalist for the 2020 SWTP Rising Artist Competition and Attic Salt Theatre Company Playwriting Competition.

The Workshop
In this workshop led by Guest Artist Benjamin Domask-Ruh, we’ll explore what it means to be funny by utilizing the ideas of the theatrical clown. We will explore the ideas of LISTENING, CONNECTING, PHYSICALITY, COMMITMENT, and, most important, PLAY.
